From the smooth sound of the guitar in the piece "Down the Road" to the intense drum solo in "Sing, Sing, Sing," the Saint Mary's College Jazz Band Concert on November 19 proved to be a hit.

The show was advertised as a study break for busy students.  The band played nine songs, including the bombastic "Just in Time," "Four" and "Blue Bossa" and the more tender "Dream Catcher" and "Satin 'n Glass," which featured freshman Ross Venneburg playing a trumpet solo while the rest of the band played in the background.

However, by far the most memorable piece was an interpretation of Chicago's song "25 or 6 to 4," featuring the guitar talents of Richie Peters and Angel Rodriguez on the tambourine.

Solo performances, whether on trombone, saxophone, or guitar, were consistently met with applause. The band closed the night with a shout out to the Saint Mary's basketball team as they played the famous warm-up song of the Harlem Globetrotters, "Sweet Georgia Brown."

The band was pleased with its performance. "I thought they did great," said John Maltester, the conductor.  The students, however, were a bit more modest about their abilities, as shown by senior A.J. Garcia, who simply stated, "We did pretty good."  However, the performance ultimately showed they have an intense passion for what they do. Junior Megan Dagang, who was featured many times that night, called the jazz band her "favorite thing in the entire world."
