Applications are now available for the Border Lives immersion trip, which will take place March 28 through April 3 this spring. The applications are due on November 30 and only 12 spots are available for the trip.

Students will be introduced to the harsh reality of immigration that takes place on the border of Arizona and Mexico. As a result of immigration policy, people who pass from Mexico to the United States risk their lives crossing the desert wilderness. Hundreds of immigrants from Mexico, South America, and even China have died in the past few years on these harsh borders.

The trip is sponsored by the Center for Mission and Ministry Center and is coordinated by Leo Guardado, the assistant director for justice and education. He explained that "The immersion provides students with a raw experience of the controversial issue of immigration, which demands our full attention as people of faith."

During the trip, students must address questions about life on the border like to what degree does a wall between Mexico and the United States impact migrant deaths? And how can immigration reform adequately address the human rights issues that arise?
