Of all the fashion memos I have missed, I am most sorry to have missed the one that stated wearing tights or leggings as pants is acceptable. This is a fashion craze that is infiltrating campuses and streets all over the country. Slowly, but surely, each week I see a consistent number of girls daring enough to risk exposing a panty line.

As if girls wearing men's dress shirts with a belt and nothing else is not bad enough, now females are taking the liberty to misuse other articles of clothing. When leggings paired with miniskirts became all the rage, I balked at such decisions, but waved them off with a solid pair of jeans. Now when girls wearing pretty much the same outfit sans miniskirt, I can only stare in disbelief and derision.

Have you no respect for pants, ladies? It does not matter how hot your legs are or how good you may think you look, tights were not meant to be worn as pants! I appreciate creativity when it comes to personal style, but the tights/leggings-as-pants fad seems to be a closet error as opposed to a conscious decision. I do not want to see your butt in public. No one wants to see your butt in public. If someone wants to see your butt in public, then that may not be a person you really want to hang around.

Traipsing around in pseudo-pants is the wrong way to garner attention. I like to be comfortable in my clothes same as any other person. I don a pair of spandex shorts and flounce around my apartment when the mood strikes me, but never have I ever considered walking out in broad daylight wearing something that shows as much, or rather as little. Do not let me even get started on the amount of camel toe and moose knuckle being paraded around due to this misguided trend.

On a realistic aspect, tights are also made of a thinner material than jeans and other pants. When a breeze comes frolicking by, your legs will feel every bit of that cold wind. The thought alone makes me uncomfortable.

Ladies, do all of us and yourself a favor, get some pants.

For those who share in my distaste of this fashion faux-pas, or believe I am simply making a larger deal out of nothing, be sure to check out: www.TightsAreNotPants.com
